Maybe it is me but I look at this new device called an OnPlug. It is designed as a cut off aid for systems such as TVs to reduce their standby levels to zero.
It is claimed to be the simpliest such device which means there are more like that out there.
Personally, I would just use the off switch on the socket. Cuts power to zero every time. Doesn’t cost any more and, anything with a light on it must use some power, uses no power at all when not in use.
We seem to be going mad. We do not need a technological solution to everything. Somethings are best left as simple as they are. It does help explain though why we are all up to our armpits in debt and we all have a house full of tat.

I think you will find that is for a US socket where they don’t have switches on the socket as in the UK. We don’t have switches on the sockets over here either and I have to make up leads with switches in them for those things plugged into sockets that are behind things and thus hard to unplug to switch off.
I smell commercial opportunity. Give it the thumbs up whilst I negotiate a contract for a labour saving remote control.
MTG, Too late, you can get remote controlled plug/socket adapters in the US and mainland Europe. As far as I know they are even available in the UK from specialist suppliers as well.
Ivan,
It was an American plug by the looks of it. So that is not so bad.
I have seen infra red controlled ones for sale in the UK. It is taking laziness to extremes.
MTG,
It seems we will pay money for anything nowadays. Go ahead with your marketing campaign. I’m sure you will make a profit.
