It seems there is life still on Mars. The Political class seem to have survived millenia being exposed to harsh radiation. Read this article in the Sun about life on Mars. Ironic isn’t it that the Sun is giving us information about Mars.
Anyway, as we know NASA has been preparing for some time, and SciFi writers a lot longer, for a manned trip to Mars. So it is no surprise to find that they have plans that involve minimal interaction with Martian life. Martian life, it sound kind of SciFi to say that. Anyway, those plans involve sterlizing any craft sent to Mars to ensure we don’t contaminate it.
Although two things spring to mind. The first is that we have been sending probes to the moon for decades and for all we know we could have introduced that life. The second is we are going to terraform the planet eventually. Do we seriously think we will let our second step into the great unexplored cosmos be stopped because of pond scum?
Sounds good but their civilisation is going to be kept in a petri jar or not at all. Don’t want them invading anyway. This is our first strike to stop them developing into the race of killers we have turned them into in every SciFi book for the last 50 years.
