It seems there is life still on Mars. The Political class seem to have survived millenia being exposed to harsh radiation. Read this article in the Sun about life on Mars. Ironic isn’t it that the Sun is giving us information about Mars.
Anyway, as we know NASA has been preparing for some time, and SciFi writers a lot longer, for a manned trip to Mars. So it is no surprise to find that they have plans that involve minimal interaction with Martian life. Martian life, it sound kind of SciFi to say that. Anyway, those plans involve sterlizing any craft sent to Mars to ensure we don’t contaminate it.
Although two things spring to mind. The first is that we have been sending probes to the moon for decades and for all we know we could have introduced that life. The second is we are going to terraform the planet eventually. Do we seriously think we will let our second step into the great unexplored cosmos be stopped because of pond scum?
Sounds good but their civilisation is going to be kept in a petri jar or not at all. Don’t want them invading anyway. This is our first strike to stop them developing into the race of killers we have turned them into in every SciFi book for the last 50 years.
When goverments, especially authorative ones like ours, starts to dictate laws that are stupid or unreasonable we as rebellious children like to screw them over and show how inneffective they are. This latest law from the Music and Film distributors, via our ever vigilant government, is just one of many such laws.
So, before the ISPs even have a chance to work out how they are going to handle the Digital Economy Act, (and ISPs are quick as they can bend over faster than a tory PPC when cameron changes his policies again), we have a workaround already. Although you would have thought with a title like that it would be beneficial for the UK. Sadly, every part of our economy is being screwed by socialists which is why we are being given advice that is the opposite of what you would be expecting.
I’ll have to see what my ISP says about it. Must be worth a call at least.
In transport terms you need backbones to be high speed, as fast as possible, and easily accessed. This innovative solution to keeping trains moving and on time seems like an ideal way to integrate passenger rail stations in with a high speed rail backbone. This could be done with the existing rail network and each station upgraded without major impact until the switch over occurred.
One thing I did spot was the walkways on to the unit stayed outside the cabin when the doors closed. Need to be careful as we wouldn’t want any OAPs left standing outside when the cabin leaves the station. (Although it would make candid camera videos a lot more spectacular.)
Of course in my master plan I’m simply allowing small vehicles to drive up and link up to the backbone itself in a similar way. Not as foot passengers but as drivers. Enter your destination and get dropped off when you reach it. Not long trains like here but hundreds of little units all being jumped on and off all over the place similar to ski lifts.
I don’t want to be without my car and crammed into a train like cattle.
Still along way to go before Quantum Messaging becomes feasible. Secure messaging where the exact location you view it is part of the key that enables the decryption.
Of course this is fine in theory but there are many issues which make this unlikely we will see it in action any time soon. The most obvious, and the show stopper, is how is our KGB style Government going to intercept and analyse these? The others are merely technical issues with the infrastructure.
In saying that however I like these because third parties will develop them and release them into the world and, OK, it enable Obama and his nutters, to communicate and to damage the country and kill it’s citizens and terrorists as well, but they always find a way anyway with money and their flunkeys. It is normal people like us that need protection. Any system like this is a positive move for freedom.
Sometimes it is the simple things that make the biggest differences. Here is an ionised water spray that is used to kill germs including MRSA and the, allegedly, pandemic H1N1 virus.
Now anyway can simply take tap water and ionise it, a very simple process, which will produce ionised water which can kill germs and clean up without those pesy and unpopular added chemicals. A win all round.
Isn’t science wonderful. Only problem though. It isn’t going to help our hospitals any. It requires elbow grease. Something that worked fine for millenia but has broken down recently due to a recent bout of socialist PCness.
12 billion plus just doesn’t buy the security it used too.
Security needs to be built in from the design up. Adding it later doesn’t always cut it.
So what was that the government were saying about keeping our data secure in id cards, biometrics etc. It’d be laughable if it wasn’t so serious.
One of the easier tasks I would have thought for a first robot in the home was a hoover, in the same line a lawn mower for the garden. So it is no surprise to hear of another floor cleaner being released.
Yet despite the blurb saying ‘Robot floor cleaners designed to free us from the drudgery of keeping the house clean are nothing new’ I have yet to see or hear of one in use in a normal home. It seems that they are only in use in rich peoples homes and only the kind of rich that have no kids, no servants and like tech toys.
I’m really getting impatient here. It would certainly boost the economy as people like me scrape together the money to do these boring chores yet nobody is taking advantage. Surely the research stage is over. It’s time for the mass manufacture and sale.
Bring back the Henry Ford spirit.
When you just don’t have the resources to compete you are best prioritising your resources to give you the best bang for your buck.
In some cases literally.
Just in case you think this is ineffective then read some real world war games from only a few years ago when a US Commander used these tactics to win the game. I know a game isn’t real but he clearly can see the way the world is going. More than those higher up anyway. The game was played again without the speedboats and the US won. Whoopie Doo Dah. Hope the real fight has the same rules.
It’s always been a lucrative business. Most people who drive have money and the government has always wanted to get it’s greedy sticky hands on as much as it can. The punishment being out of all proportion to the crime. Look at speeding fines. Three miles over the limit and a fine of £100 is not uncommon plus a victim surcharge and the points on your license. Nice easy money. So much so that when new technology comes along to help it against crime the motorist is always the first to get it in the neck.
Here is a new satellite system that will monitor mototists now matter where they are and calculate their speed so the instant they pop over the limit they can be sent a ticket.
It’s a bit difficult to fight this one as well. No equipment to calibrate no witness to question. Just a program that the government will not allow sight of because someone will find bugs.
Even worse, what can we do. No cameras to put necklaces on or planes to point your laser pens at. It’ll be a while before we can launch something into orbit that can disrupt the satellite, although there are plans. I think I’ll pull them out and look at them again. Basically a big rail gun, like that kid developed in Russia, capable of shooting down satellites.
On the other hand we can just not register our cars and with no plod to chase them up these systems will be useless.
It seems we have yet another company launching a personal submarine. This time it is a hybrid, a cross between a boat and a sub.
I want one. Will help with my plans for taking over the universe. However there seems to be a lot of personal submarines being marketed at the moment and most of the would be customers, such as myself, are skint. Though I could see our local drug dealer wanting one. His business, because it doesn’t involve government oversight, seems to be one of the few businesses actually doing well at the moment. Must be a message there somewhere.
This one seems to have the right range and endurance for pottering about and taking the scenic route. I wonder though what the local customs office will say when one of these turns up at the quay.
