Qualcomm, who I thought had disappeared off the planet, have been busy while away. They have just shown a colour eReader that looks very nice and is designed to have better battery life and bright enough to read in sunlight. They want a third party to manufacture and sell it.
As these units are improving in steps every time we see a new one it is getting to the stage when I am going to have to make a stand and buy one. Until then I think I will ignore them until I’m ready to put my hand in my pocket.
I see next XMas as a good time for my jump. As anyone who knows me will tell you I don’t like rushing into things. One thing is clear though. No DRM. I can wait.

Very nice but the big question is – price. The second question is size and durability of the screen.
Anything under a 9 inch screen is just about useless for diagrams and most bits of technical information. Also, why the obsession for video, wi-fi and all the other bells and whistles? If it’s an e-reader that’s what it should do – anything else added and it ceases to be an e-reader and becomes something that has the ability to display e-books, and there are lot of computers that will do that.
My reason for waiting to buy one is price – when they get the large ones down to a reasonable price then I’ll buy.
Yes, very nice indeed. I have an idea like that too. All I need is for someone to put up the development money, build, advertise and sell it for me. I’ll provide the coffee and the ideas.
Ivan,
Price is very important to me as well. Unless they are wellpriced only the geeks will have one. In the future they will be like MP3 players. You will even have several on your des for different tasks. Just need to get some standards and the costs down.
James,
I think they did a little bit ore than provide the coffee. They have provided the kit just need a manufacturer and distributor. That is a valid sales model.
We’ll wait and see what happens then.
Just a ‘small’ followup – a newspaper sized bendy screen.
