Here is a system that is being called a Killer App because it give an intuitive interface to a Microwave over. In a similar way this portable Microwave is being called a Killer App because it is portable.
Similar to almost everything else nowadays basic English words are being corrupted and stolen. For example ‘The Right Honourable Gentleman’ is a phrase now corrupted beyond recognition as is Gay and Liberal. Killer App seems to be going the same way.
Now if they were to make a Microwave portable and you could drop anything into it which it then cooked to perfection regardless of the power rating or the item itself then that would be a useful device. Still not a Killer App though.
We are still taking baby steps, suppliers making as much profit out of each stage as possible yet making it soundlike it is a breakthrough. Hopefully this recession may force them to take bigger steps to prise the money from our careful and cost conscious hands.

Sometimes you write one I understand from beginning to end. Sometimes you write one I haven’t got a f–ing clue what you are saying. This is one of the latter.
I hope Mr. App is happy with his new microwave and that his English passes muster.
On the hijacking of words though – that’s a constant pain in the nether regions.
What is it with these people? My microwave from the early 80s does what the Electrolux people are talking about. It has a touch pad which you use to enter everything, be to setting the clock or the cooking time and power and you see what you have input in a display. So it sounds as if they are re-inventing the wheel.
As for the portable one – when it runs off 12 v then it might be something to shout about.
Neither can be considered as ‘killer apps’, or indeed killer anything.
The hijacking of words and phrases and turning their meaning round 180 degrees or giving them an entirely new meaning is nothing new, especially by the political class. It does make it difficult to know what they are talking about though.
James,
And I thought this was a quick and easy one.
I was complaining because the text said Killer App. A Killer App IMO is an Application like VisiCalc which changed the world. Entire companies work off todays incarnation Excel.
Giving some extra buttons on a Microwave and making it accept variable power input (making it global) is not a Killer App.
Ivan,
It does accept 12v but still nothing to shout about. We have had inverters for years and many people have been powering Microwaves in caravans for years.
The hijacking of words in a con. Pure and simple. Take something accepted as positive and then relate it to something negative to make the negative look more positive.
As you say a trick of the political class. May they burn in Hell.
May they indeed. HNY.
Lord T…………….Happy New Year and may the fruit of your loins populate a large island yet to be discovered in a thousand years time!
A thousand years. That is a lot of population growth so I had better get started.
Now there is a new years wish I can get stuck in to.
The problem with this country is BOTH the Democrats and Republicans. Anyone who seriously thinks that one side isn’t corrupt or slaves to Corporate America hasn’t done an adequate job of paying attention. To the Republicans: The GW administration will go down in History as one of the worst administrations. They eroded your constitutional rights, expanded the power of the wealthy elite, invaded countries under false pretenses, destroyed diplomatic relations with the rest of the world, and spent money like it was going out of style. To the Democrats: Obama is a dud. He promised much and has turned out to be another corporate lackey. He made deals with big pharma to ensure you could not get your medication cheaper elsewhere, he flip flopped on military tribunals, he refuses to fix health care properly through nationalization or single payer, he populates his inner circle with more Wall Street insiders, he spends money on bailouts and useless stimulus packages.
