Grow your own meat

OK. We have been doing that for thousands of years. You get a little pig and feed it waste or allow it to roam around your land and when it is big enough you kill and eat it.

As expected that is not what this is about. This article is refering to growing meat in vats like plants. The soil is blood type products and the seeds are cuttings of real meat which is encouraged to grow in the blood medium. A bit like Hydroponics but with meat instead of plant grown and blood instead of soil.

The pinciple makes sense and I can understand how it works. I wonder though how effective it is at growing the meat for the inputs. It implies 10x normal and that does make a bit of sense as animals waste a lot of the nutriets fed to them in locomotion and generally pottering about. I would be interested in seeing the figures. After all the blood used is using animal foetuses so they start at the same place. How much feed and where they end up is the important point.

One thing that is surprising is that nobody has tasted this meat yet. It makes you wonder what happened to the curiosity of scientists. It seems to me to be riskier to take the first vaccine, try the first cannon or ride the first plane, car, helicopter or bum massager than to taste some lab grown meat. What do the know that we don’t know? Not to worry though, some politician will get his kids to try it out for us to show it is safe.
