When the thong was developed we though that you couldn’t really go any further in that area. Many thought we had advanced too far and too fast but most were more than satisfied. The odd visionary wondered what would be next and if we had reached the limits of our abilities.
But never count out human ingenuity. Here is the C string.

Sadly, a bit of a let down imo. I prefer the thong myself. However, it is supposed to be worn not looked at so maybe it is better for women. (As if that makes a difference)
When I was younger I always envisaged that in the future the bad boys and girls hanging around streets in gangs would have some superb electronic tattoos that were programmable and very very gaudy. Well it looks like that time is almost here. Designed for medical use the silicon tattoos are inserted under the skin and display whatever you want. Read more here.
This is going to be a massive plus for the younger generations. Currently there are going to be a lot of people coming up to sixty with some serious tattoos on them that just won’t cut it in the old folk’s home. Think what it will be like to see some old bald guy with skinhead tattoos on his arms and hands. The future generations will be able to turn theirs off or at the very least make it say ‘My name is John’ Just in case.
Of course nothing is complete without me looking at the other side of the sword. Instead of being tattooed on our arms with a number we could have an IR tattoo installed in our forehead with our KGB style ID on it. A machine readable one at that.
Well not really Economics 101 but an observation that as new technology comes out the old technology reduces in price as it moves towards obsolescence.
I’ve always bought my it after its initial fall down the cost curve where it is usually significantly cheaper. Sure, I don’t have the latest technology but I don’t have the hassle of leading edge equipment such as lack of drivers or design flaws.
So as I am looking at my next upgrade I wonder where we are are on the supply curve for some of the obsolete kit we have here.
Here is a guy who has had a bionic bum fitted after a car accident left him badly injured. Read here.
I can understand him not wanting a colostomy bag and this surgery being an improvement but it is the method used. It will have to be replaced in five years. That must mean that those muscles are special like the heart and ordinary muscle just won’t cut it. That must mean something profound but I’m unable to process it.
All I can say is there must have been a better way. With all the plumbing and biological technology we have now how can performing surgery on his working body and using his own muscles to simply open his bowels by remote control be the best solution? Couldn’t we have built a replacement unit? One that doesn’t need surgery to keep going and if they can graft artificial hands on surely providing an artificial bum must be easier.
It just doesn’t seem right to me that we use a technique I would have thought was obsolete in this day with our technology. Seems tome he got a bum deal here although he was happy with it.
This looks like a nice way to provide covert information to a user, a display built into a contact lens. Read here. The LEDs in the contact lens will project information into the lens itself and the image displayed will appear to float up to a metre away from the user.
Think how handy this would be during exam time, err…, I mean when you are working on a train or in a car. Like all the other displays that in reality provide head up displays it could be used for Sat Nav, instruction aids while working on units, PDAs reminding the forgetful among us information on whom we are speaking to. In reality although using a different, and very interesting, technology it is not all that different in function from the other displays we have looked at.
What I do wonder about is other uses it could be put to. Could it be programmed to change the wearer’s eye colour? How about iris recognition could it spoof that? I’m betting it could be programmed to do so. Coupled with real time information displays this seems more like a tool for spooks. I wonder if this will disappear into Q’s little lab on the Thames and we never see it again.
If not it will make visiting the KGB style airports a lot more interesting.
Finally, there are some SSD drives available at a reasonable price from Kingston.
I’ll finally be able to set up a reasonable crypto book with an easily destructable boot drive. Just need to perfect the destruction but it shouldn’t be too hard. 40Gb isn’t much but enough for a communications system and a work platform for keeping your plans and your real financial records on until the big drives become affordable.
Just what every criminal, terrorist and patriot needs in this country.
Here is our wonderful government generating laws on a daily basis to control our every move and yet it appears that Plod doesn’t even have to use them when it comes to shutting down websites as the ISPs bend us over and let Plod have their way by disconnecting us when Plod asks. Because they are not using the law they don’t need to record the number of sites they have shut down. Read the story here.
No appeal, no discussion, just Plod deciding they don’t like a site and the ISP shuts it down for them.
It’s the reason I’ll be moving all my hosting abroad when I can get organised. At least that way Plod will have to actually do some work to get them removed in situations they actually can.
Here is an admission from a security expert that this bill which is being implemented to record all our phone calls and intercept all our EMails is going to be just for us as Terrorists and Enemies of the State can just use a common computer tool to bypass it all. It seems Skype is immune to monitoring. So to all terrorists out there you go here and get your software, hardware is available at most computer shops and big stores.
Big Brother is now here – and look, he is retarded. – John Dean “Jeff” Cooper (1920 – 2006)
To all Enemies of the State, ie Patriots, don’t believe it for a minute. Skype, like any corporate, will bend us over for big government so backdoors will be in place as soon as they realise that Patriots are discussing the Constitution on Skype without Big Brother listening in.
However there is plenty of free software out there with the source code for you to pore over and use and for the really technical you can write your own. It’s only software and could save you a life in jail for criticizing the government in what was once a free country.
This just proves it is for the plebs and not the Terrorists. The Terrorists have already won they, and us, are just too stupid to realise it.
I always envisaged skateboards and their grown up cousins snowboards to be kids toys. Not something I was ever interested in trying, they came about after I was a kid, because they were so toy like.
Now it appears they are all grown up. Here are powered units that can hit 60 kph and can even go over rugged terrain. Kids will love them but in the PC age where we are wrapping everyone in cotton wool do you think this is a sensible product to try and market? It seem to me to be more suited to military use than for the public so I foresee some new laws out soon like they did with quad bikes.
In the meantime these should enable teenagers to let off some steam on the pavements and roads. The car theft rate should go down a bit because these will be much more of a thrill.
Scientists think that there could be life in the frozen oceans on some of Jupiter and Saturn’s moons. This life could exist in the water which is suspected to be there below the frozen surfaces.
Two probes are currently scheduled to investigate the frozen seas of two of Jupiter’s moons, Europa and Ganymede, in about a decade followed a couple of years later to two of Saturn’s moons, Enceladus and Titan. Read the full story here.
If they find anything not only will it be the first proof that life exists on other planetary bodies but will likely be the replacement food source now that Cod has been all but wiped out due to the EU’s stupid CAP policy. As an added bonus they will come back frozen as well. Although I wonder how many carbon miles would be clocked up by a Titan prawn. Enough to give most greens a heart attack.
I’m sure the scientists will be excited about the find for other reasons. Medicines, origins of life etc.
