Since Cameron’s statement on the EU there seems to be a little bit of action going on at several sites, including James Higham who is getting mentioned in dispatches for his views, regarding the state of democracy in the UK. It seems that people actually thought that Cameron was going to be different.
Well the bubble has well and truly popped and there is a lot of interesting chatter going on as lines are drawn and people, like myself, make assumptions about what it means, try and guess what that will mean turn election time next year. For one thing it has improved Gordos chances of being re-elected and reduced Cameron’s while increasing the chances of a hung government. (Sadly that is hung as in no outright winner with absolute control rather than hung as in dangling from a lamppost with a hemp necklace)
My view on bringing democracy into the 21st century hinges on using technology to enable everyone to participate in politics as much or as little as they want.
Simply put, every person has an id card with secure public and secret keys on it. This id card is simply a key and not anything like the ID database we are being forced on to. On your computer or at terminals in libraries etc. you can slot your card in go to the governments website and vote on whatever you want. Proposed legislation is put on there for perusal and comment plus voting. If you can’t be bothered then it will be decided by others. Read the main article for more details.
Democracy and no need for those pesky thieving politicians although be careful what you wish for. This will necessitate vigilance by you.

However, I’m trying to be above all that and actually point out progress, or otherwise, in us as a species. So with that in mind and refering to yesterdays post on ‘True democracy is but a button away’ and my original post on ‘Short term objectives – Leadership’. Here we go.
