From PaAnnoyed at Counting Cats a workable method for bringing voting into the 21st Century.
Using this as a basis we could even have armchair voting and enable true democracy. Wouldn’t that be something.

It would appear that some people have already started to think that way – see the comment of Berenike.
It is the sort of democratic voting that I’ve been looking for for years. It would reduce government by about 70% and coupled with Citizen’s Income* or Negative Income Tax it would enable everyone to be responsible for what they do.
* see Citizen’s Income Trust for a PDF explaining it – at least that is what is on the PDF I have.
It would and somethig we should be closely looking at implementing.
Ivan,
It is an enabling technology that we should look at rolling out asap. However big government knows that which is why they move so slow on things like this. Look at the fanfare for the rollout of postal voting not that long ago.
I’ve read that PDF previously. It, like everything, needs to be part of a whole and by itself is not going to solve anything. Financialcontrolis power and they won’t want to let go so easily.
James,
Yes. Along with a few other things.
Lord T,
How do we put all the little parts together to get real democracy? There has to be some way we can remove the political class and the, not so, civil servants. The only way I can see is for an absolute monarchy where the ruler clears the way to let the people have their say then sits back until the next time some clout is needed.
Non of the political parties at the moment have the guts to do anything that might diminish their power over us – in fact they lap it up. I would even say there is very little difference between any of them which is why so few people vote.
Ivan,
IMO there is only one way it will happen.
1) We have someone in power who actually believes in this and they set up the enabling acts and start the process going.
Now, to get someone in power who wants that we have a couple of options
1) We get invaded and are taken over by someone who puts it in place. If only we had the US turning uplike Iraq did. (Note to Obama, We will cheer in the streets when Gordo is dead)
2) We get invaded, fight it off and elect in someone who puts it in place. The winners not being whingy whiney liberals of course.
3) We keep trying every 5 years to get someone useful in.
4) We kill our leaders in a revolt, vote in some new ones. If no better revolt again and kill them. Repeat till we get someone decent.
No political system is perfect. This is the bad side of the one we have chosen. We just need to limit the time a person can serve to remove the political class and enable a way to remove them easily without force. Gordo should have been long gone. Other than that moving the power to the individuals is OK.
Personally, I think we should have centrally defined laws and a country wide police force and judicial system to enforce it impartially. The rest we leave up to the local community on what they want and their local tax rates with a central tax of a max of 1% for central government and no credit facility. All mandated by statute and with certain enshrined rights like the US.
