Memes and the MonkeySphere

As a follow on from last nights post.

Why memes have such a destructive hold on us and why we keep trying previously failed systems such as Socialism.

Read Parasite memes and monkeyspheres.

  • The moment the exploded and discredited Dawkins is invoked, it’s time to set the record straight. To paraphrase the warnings at the start of DVDs : “You wouldn’t invoke a socialist, you wouldn’t invoke a climate warmer. Why invoke the discredited Dawkins? I left this at the site at the end of the link:

“Richard Dawkins came up with a concept of ideas as individual replicators- like genes- which acted much as organisms do under the influence of natural selection. He called these proposed replicators memes, and observed that they really do act quite a lot like genes do”

LOL. He and his ilk are trying to come up with explanations for what is already explained and for which there is ample evidence in ancient sources, simply on the grounds that he does not want to look at the evidence.

Dawkins says that we should “think like scientisits”. Fine, fine, then like a scientist or scholar, look at the documentary evidence and see that the issue of kings is already explained in the metaphyscial through the historical papyrus et al.

But no, he needs to deny that, otherwise his house of cards falls to the ground.

The issue of kings is well established.

    James,

I understand what you are saying but was just trying to raise alternatives for the one question we never seem to get an answer to. ‘Why do people keep resurrecting failed ideologies?’ As you know I have my theories but just thought I would throw some alternatives on to the pile seeing as it was linked to the monkeysphere post.

Personally, I don’t believe in memes as such but there is certainly something in our genes or something else, why not memes?, that makes us so irrational. Genes don’t explain everything.

  • You’re right – genes don’t explain everything. It was just the sight of Dawkins pontificating which lit the fire.

Sometimes people explaining their theories although not always right can trigger someone else to have a slightly modified theory that is right or even if the new theory is wrong can make someone else think and so on.

That is science. Unless we have a theory that fits exactly then lets discuss the ones out there with a view to finding the truth.
