Not too long ago I was trying to explain about proximity relationships. Basically, where people close to you get weighed more in your thoughts than people further away. Even if it is many people further away. I was referring to looking after people if there was some sort of civil disturbance that disrupted the food delivery chain.
Your family members, close friends, close relatives, close neighbours, other friends, distant relatives, other neighbours, locals you don’t really know and down the chain till we meet foreigners in another country.
Depending on our current situations depends on where we draw the line on help. Not much food left and we don’t care about locals for example. Whereas if we had plenty of food seeing someone hungry in another country on the television creates a different response.
Now it appears we have a nice technical name for this called the MonkeySphere and it seems it defines a limit on how how many people we as a species class as within our ‘sphere’ That number is 150. It actually makes a good deal of sense. My previous post on the root cause of all our ills discusses taking government down to a local level, basically because while we were strong communities we had more morals and pretty much looked after each other. Although I was considering local areas to be much bigger than 150 people. Maybe I wasn’t thinking small enough although I would see such low numbers unworkable due to the size of our estates and cities. Maybe I’m wrong.
The MonkeySphere, cracking name. Read the article and then understand why we elect the politicians we do. It’s in our nature.
