Evolution in action

Well as they used to say in ‘Not the nine o’clock news’   It’s not all bad news.   It seems that scientists have discovered 353 new species in the Himalayas.  From what I can see they look pretty much the same as animals we already have.   Does that make them dispensable?  Can we eat them or what?  I’m not clear.

I also wonder if this discovery means we can stop worrying about 350 of similar species on the endangered list because we now have replacements?  Of course not, silly me, scientists will be making the statement soon that it would have been 450 but we were too slow making our 100W light bulbs illegal.  Can’t have people thinking everything is OK.

How long will it take for us to get it into our heads we cannot stop changes taking place on the planet?  Species will die and new species will take their place.  It’s the way it has been for uncountable millions of years and is evolution in action.

But in the meantime while we wait for the light to come on in their heads can we actually send more scientists out to find more species rather than leave them back in the office writing about their views on how many species we lost last week.  It would make for some positive news rather than the negative news that is all that comes out of natural scientists for the last few decades.
