It just needs a bit of lateral thinking. I would imagine that a breakthrough in material or a new technology would kick start a new method. Give them time. I may even design one myself for my new stealth super bomber which I am developing for the revolution. James,

Why can’t aircraft be set up as little pods with maybe 15 to 25 passengers in which allowed the pods to be ejected from the airframe and deploy parachutes in an emergency. Aerodynamics.
