It’s about time that reforms are put in place around the UK’s political system. As suggested here we need a written constitution and an improved voting system which more accurately reflects the will of the people which must include recall and censure for serious misconduct.
But isn’t it all a bit strange that it is Gordo that is doing this? He is the one we want to recall and censure. He is the one we actually want the reforms for. We have spoken but he can just ignore us and continue screwing us and our country. He knows he will be gone before any of these reforms are in place and don’t for a minute think that any legislation put in place by this lot will be any good. It will need to be completely rewritten and any implementation on the proposals he and his bunch produces will undoubtedly put back the implementation of decent reforms by years and cost a lot more. So in a way it’s lucky that it will take so long and he is unlikely to get his proposals through.
The only reason that Gordo is doing this is to salt the earth. A last screw you to the people of the UK and other politicians, his disloyal colleagues and competition. He knows he is a dead duck but there is nothing that anyone can do to him legally and he has no moral compass. His father must be spinning in his grave.
However, we should proceed with these reforms. Even if Gordo was to drop dead or some patriot was to bring him down the whole lot is still corrupt. We need an investigation by someone who knows what they are doing, we need some proposals and proposals with some real change not tinkering around the edges around all these areas, constitution, voting system, recall system, peers, referendums etc.
Over the last decade we have been shown how our democracy has been corrupted by a corrupt few. It is time for reform the systems we have in place were in place when our elected leaders were, well elected for a start, and had a sense of honour. However we should not allow the worst person there ever has been in charge to make these changes. Contrary to his repeated bleating he has never been the right man for the job.
On the other hand when the next lot get in, and it is likely to be the Tories, they won’t want any pesky reforms. Hell, they don’t really want a referendum on the EU as that would be taking democracy to far and listening to the people. Can’t have that. So they would make a constitution pretty similar to Gordos and make sure that they don’t screw it up for themselves. Either way we are not going to get what we want. Maybe what we deserve though.
Perhaps we should make the changes ourselves just like the US did over two centuries ago. It’s the ultimate recall facility. I’m sharpening my sporks now.
