Feeding the masses

Well if anyone is in any doubt that we are running out of food to feed our growing masses then I think this article should give them something to consider.    It’s vegetable growing warehouses in Japan and we also do them here.  Although the ones in the UK grow something a bit more interesting.

As you can see the vegetables are grown in stacks.   I would guess there is no real limit on how high you go if you have automated warehouse management systems to move the trays around and/or little robots attending them.

Using this technology we will also be able to grow items only found in other climates and thus make all out foodstuffs local.    Won’t keep the whingey whiney greens happy, what does?, but it’ll cut down transport use and replace it with a requirement for non CO2 generating renewable power.    Nuclear.

Obviously this uses a lot of power so if we continue down the route of solar panels and windmills we will be able to power the lights on one single tray.

  • I’ve looked at it and it’s a grand idea but my worry is that it is going to be controlled by those who wish to control the food supply and water for political ends. You, being far less cynical, possibly see a way of it happening.

I feel this produce will go on the special shelves in the supermarkets at a vastly higher price.

It probably will go on the shelves at a high price intially but as the output increases and more do it it will come down in price. It is the way of all things until politicians stick their oars in.

It would be difficult to control. It’s just basically what you do in your garden inside your house.

I see people wanting to control it though but as more laws are introduced ordinary people start to ignore them and without compliance the state can not control us. We are not all at the stage to allow us to die by state order yet.
