These techniques should allow us to grow our own organs for transplant and remove the three main issues we have with transplants at the moment.
1) There are not enough organs to go around. A shortage of donors.
2) The ethics involved in the acquisition and deployment.
3) The rejection of the donated organs.
If it can be expanded to include all organs and they can be grown in a reasonable timescale then it would enable us to diagnose an illness, grow a replacement part and perform a transplant before the patient even has to take any time off work. Without the requirement of anti rejection drugs the recovery time will simply be the time taken for the stitches and wounds to heal but a lot quicker than it would be if the organ was being rejected or infected.
Sadly of course that means we don’t need a spare Scarlett Johansson. Bugger.
