Looks like we will be adding some more parts to our banned list of items.
Ever since our first nuclear explosions where the side effect of the EMP pulse was detected we have been working on ways to produce the EMP effect without all that nasty radiation. For a while now we have been able to do this and there are now many items out there capable of producing an EMP pulse. The theory is quite simple and now it seems that our scientists have come around to the conclusion that Mr Average science nerd can build himself an EMP generator that could bring down an aircraft. Read here. I don’t know why this is such a big surprise as how this is done has been known for a long time now and like almost anything else on this planet is almost impossible to stop once that people know something can be done. Of course that will not stop us trying and I’m sure we will ban some commonly used components which will cause inconvenience to all in our futile attempt to stop it. After all US science students can build all the parts of a nuke without the fissile material and if you think the UK is far behind in the science stakes here in the UK we can make baking soda volcanoes. Whoopie Do Dah.
But why would anyone want to build a EMP generator to bring down a plane anyway? They are too big and cumbersome for most of us when we can use a simple Stinger or SAM7 instead to bring down aircraft and at a much reduced cost. Or you could simply build yourse;f some weapons like those gunsmiths in Pakistan on some old and cumbersome lathes and shoot at them. Of course when the power requirements can be condensed into a hand held unit then that might be different but that is a while away.
I was looking at this technology to build my own EMP generator and making it portable on the back of a truck or van. But not to bring down aircraft. Too dangerous. I wanted mine so I could drive around and nuke all the CCTV cameras, the radar traps and the wheelie bin sensors for starters.
Now that would be something worth doing but because of some idiot suggesting someone could bring a plane down it looks like my component list might become a bit of an issue. Although I’ll just have to wait for the book that will be out soon ’50 EMP projects for the evil genius’ and that can tell me how to make one from a toilet roll and some bacofoil.
In the meantime we will put some more banned items on our list, stop schools and amateurs buying them, and retard progress in our education and amateur science teams yet again.
The scientific cycle in the West
Something will be invented to do something specific.
Someone will kill someone or suggest a way to kill someone with it.
Government then bans it and it’s sub components.
The bans will inconvenience many, cause injustice and ban legitimate products.
Someone will simplify the process and make it easier to build.
Someone will work out how to make one from readily available materials.
Those plans are published on the Internet for all to download.
The only people inconvenienced are the innocents who want the banned products. Bad guys will buy or make the banned items anyway.
If you have any doubts about that look here and here. There are many more if you are interested. Download them while you can. The way that we are going the only places you will be able to access this information is in off line storage, government approved labs or some free country like Mexico or Pakistan.
