Brain training tools dismissed

It seems that our experts have come down heavily against ‘Brain tools’ such as the Nintendo DS for staving off dementia and improving your memory.   Read here.

As usual with many aid we buy lots of equipment to enable us to lose weight, stave off dementia, grow better vegetables, make a better mousetrap and most of them can be done by much simpler tools that have been around for decades and are significantly cheaper.   Sadly many of them we don’t know about and many people think that new is always better.   That is why many people make money from manufacturing in plastic and re-marketing an old tool you can make from a bit of silver foil.   I would imagine that in the current climate many people will be looking at how to do things the old way and ignore some of the more expensive units to do it as grandad used to.

However, this is one area where tools like the Nintendo DS may not be such a loss.   You see these tools are designed to be reprogrammed and tweaked until they do actually deliver what they are claiming now.   So maybe not better at the first generation but no worse and crosswords doesn’t really have many other options to extend their usefulness.

It’s funny how when asked now about anything we always have to throw in one of the current mantras for today which is that it is best to exercise and watch your diet. By now everyone knows that but these are just additional tools. Every bit helps.
