What exactly is the delay in progress?

As you can see I think we have a lot to do to get things sorted on this planet and progress our species.  I also believe we are in the position now to start a lot of these tasks and, for those already started, take a leap forward.

However, at the moment, what stands in the way is the short term viewpoint of our governments.   Being only interested in keeping their jobs and lining their pockets they only deal with knee jerk reactions and simple projects that will give quick returns in either of these interests.

This is not a way to progress.  Even today we are awaiting decisions on projects such as nuclear power stations that are already long overdue.

The impact on the power stations could we that we literally run out of power within a few years.  The lead time for building power stations being around a decade to sort out the funding and all the government bureaucracy plus five years to build one after the actual go decision.

On the plus side, for the government, the impact will be so far away that people, being thick, will forget that it was these that botched it up by not making decisions and blame it on the government at that time.

This however shows that even projects that span less than two decades are considered low importance.  How can we expect anyone who’s interest span is measured by the next poll rating to be interested in sorting out anything significant especially when we all know that some of these things are controversial and vote threatening.  Most of the objectives I have identified will have the masses up in arms about something.

Although in all of these areas private business will play a big part I do not see private business being capable of implementing some of these policies.   They will develop the means and actually do all the work but they cannot drive these programmes forward.   It needs big government to do that.

Time for them to pick up the baton.   I’m going to whinge and whine about everything they do that gives them short term benefits and ratings over what they should in fact be doing which is resolving current problems in the best way possible and preparing for our future.
