Long term objectives – Immortality

Finally the final frontier.

● Immortality

The one we have been trying for centuries to achieve.  Over the centuries our best scientific minds have been working on an elixir to achieve this end.   Magicians and religious minds have been investigating and praying for the answer.  So far, to the best of my knowledge, we have not even come close.

How it will happen is anyone’s guess.   If it is as pure energy or as biological units no one knows but I am certain it is achievable.

Long term objectives – Space Habitats

● Developing habitats for deep space, either our solar system or beyond

Whether we develop FTL travel or not eventually we will want to travel into space in a similar way to the pilgrims leaving for the New World.  Just casting off and going out there.    FTL travel will enable our colonies to stay in touch plus be linked by common values and the ability to aid each other.   However the human spirit is such that even without that we would want to get out there and take our chances.  Even if that involved journeys many hundreds of years long.

Either way we need to develop the habitats to support human life.  Be if for use on Pluto, the empty space within our solar system or for trips to other galaxies.

Making colony ships will require massive endeavours on our part and is likely to require mining of resources in our solar system to make something self contained that is in effect an entire ecosystem.

Long term objectives – FTL Travel

Now we have quickly looked at the short term objectives it’s time to look at the long term ones.

● Developing Faster Than Light travel and get out there

Plenty of theories are out there.    I have no idea which one will give us the best way to start our exploration of space but one of them or an offshoot must.

It will be bad enough starting new colonies who will want to set up their own civilisation with their own rules which we could end up going to war with over some territorial issues in a few years while we can actually travel and see them.   Think what it will be like sending out slow ships who we are unlikely to meet again for 50 thousand years.  At that point it will be like first contact as it will be a new species to us.

It makes the mind boggle but FTL travel will at least keep us together like we are now.  Not perfect but at least talking and together.   Mmmmm.   Maybe this might not be such a good idea.   Either way there will be issues.
